Initial Research

In this post I will be researching architects to complement and have a better idea of my project and the methods and concept I will be working on, this artist  have to be related to my theme which will be early delights, this means I will research on earth inspired designs to crate my project but at the same time it has to be functional so that the space can work for its purpose.

The first design I will be focusing on will be the Llandudno lifeboat station located in Llandudno, Wales, it was handed to the grew in 2017  it had to be prepare with a good design based on Limestone, Copper and Siberian larch, the materials were selected so they were resistant in the weather of the east beach of Llandudno’s Victorian seafront, this design was made by Studio Four with an important partnership with RNLI.

The design nedded to have a very noticible design, so that any users could arrive from any route with out difficulty, so the desing of the exterior is not a usual pick for a lifeboat station, the majority are based on a round shape design, and obviously the material used in this types of stuctures has to be a long lasting material, do to the exposure of weather and other factors the structure will have to endure during a long time.

The first architect I am going to look at is Eero Sarrien  he was born in 1910 finland he studies at  Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and died in 1961, he was an architect and industrial disigner, his work was know for his strcutural design, my favorite works of his is the new york JFK TAW flight center, constructed in between 1959-62, I like this design because of its shape and fuctionality key features in my project, and mayority of his projects where center and known for this particular aspect. The material he uses in his work is also a very strong and long lasting based, like contrate and metal. Mayority if not all of his work was based in not lineal shapes that maked it seem as continious.

The second architect I'm going to research on is Santiago Calatrava he was born in 1951, in spain, he is an architect, structural engineer, sculptur and painter, he studied at the  Polytechnic University of Valencia,  and made his doctorate at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. He is known for his designs with sculpt made shapes and movement as well as this same buildings reflecing nature, he as an engibiering conbines architecture and as well as his ingeniring abilities to create spaces both funtional and estetically appeling, one of his works is the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, Spain. What I liked most about this  building was the windows and the shape is very unique, his work has been recognise by the spanish goverment by awarding him a gold medal of Merit, he is also a very good example of contemporary architecture.

  1. This post is initial research - what was your inspiration for your design. The other research elements are for later in the term, where you go into more detail about each one to demonstrate how they are helping to develop your idea. Therefore, edit this post, remove Calatrava and Saarien and focus on the Llandudno lifeboat station. Add one or more of the development sketches you have been working on to demonstrate how the research is influencing your design.

Please remember to add citations to your post to demonstrate where you found the evidence for your research.
