object lesson

For the class we were assigned to use an everyday  activities, I chose two ropes from approximately 1 meter each, I was one of the last to chose so there were not a lot of options left, and consider that the rope would be useful to make shapes or knots but because it was made from a really tick fiber that made it hard to bend.

At first, I tried to capture the natural position of the object, so I could start to make a better idea of what I wanted to make with its structure and to understand what were its capabilities and what were its limitations like the fact that it was hard to make a figure that stay still for a long time.

Like this shape that did not stay together for more than two minutes and was very delicate to position on a different base, I made this shape to assemble a round shape building, made with different layers, as I intended y project to be. the second picture here is a close up of the material and its texture, as it may be obvious the texture was rough and hard.

As I tried to understand what else to do with my object I came up with the idea that I could use it as a brush to create an image with ink, at first I stated with wetting the end of the rope and then applying pressure to the paper to create a different texture after I added lines and then tried some curvy lines  to experiment better with the range of the rope.

This is another angle of the object and its texture it has a strong complexity and its hard to bend and tight to surfaces do to the fact that the material it to rigid to mold or tight to  a column or a table, I consider that if the material was more moldable it would have been more practical to experiment with the rope, It has help me because it supported my idea of layers on the my project.
