Further Research - Mid-Century House

In this post, I will be discussing an example of midcentury architecture and how it is related to my topic. To start with clear example of mid-century architecture is the Mid-Century House with Oasis-Like Backyard by Charles DuBois. This house, located in Palm Springs, California, USA built in 1961. It was built based on Desert Modernism do to the environment of Palm Springs, which concentrated on certain factors as modern design and the adaptation of the climate, using sources such as Block walls, glass walls, low rooflines, and clerestory windows.

Charles Du Bois is the architect who made this house. He was born in Rochester, New York, in 1903, but he was raised by his uncle in California. He studied at UCLA  and MIT as well. he worked in different firms throughout his life and was able to gain experience and exposure to a certain style of Spanish Baroque, Spanish Colonial and Mediterranean Revival Styles. After gaining such experience, he later opened his own office in Hollywood in 1938, but worked as a Senior set designer for MGM during World War II to later develop post-war architecture.

This house has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. It measures around 2,232 m2 and is elevated at 12,197 feet. It has materials such as Terrazzo floors and heat ceramic tiles, and includes a pool in the backyard.

What caught my attention about the kitchen is the connection it has with the dining area and how simple and functional it can be without separating the spaces.
The living room is well illuminated, as for the windows and door, which are a feature of mid-century poses and will take into account in my project. And the pool I have been considering adding, but do to the location and the weather conditions, I do not think it is a good idea. I will take into account this example in my design so I can understand how to distribute the space efficiently and accordingly to the necessities of each member of the family.

  1. As you are architecture I would be expecting your research to be on the architectural details not the interior - need to discuss this
