Today I decided to research on what are the needs of a school or in my case, a primary school for a small quantity of students. The first and most important principles of the design is the location, which I talk about in another post, It also needs to take in consideration the environmental conditions, as a base of the design the movement thru the site is very essential, that’s why design revolves around a green space that can be used easily by the community.
Apart from the design itself there are other features the project must have, what are the kind of facilities a school must have to work is the most important one, because I have never design a school before I consider this important information I needed to know.
According to Anderson(2019) a school needs:
Science computer laboratory’s - I don’t consider I need this because it’s a government founded primary school.
Library - I will add a library or a open space area to read
Infirmary - I don’t consider the infirmary necessary because the kids based on the places that my location has been stabling only attend half of the day. If need the design could be modified to instead of a dressing room an infirmary.
Cafeteria - I instead o a cafeteria will add several places the kids can eat peacefully with out bother.
Play ground- the site should be equitable with the amount of space needed for a playground
Waiting shed- I want to add this but not as just waiting but as a functional space to.
