Welcome Post

I am writing this post to welcome the spring term of 2025,  in this new term, I want to improve my vocabulary when referring to art and academic subjects, as well in the way I analyze different pieces of work and  relate it to my artwork, I want to achieve a better performance of my work in the way it is presented, Last term I lack of academic vocabulary when presenting or explaining my work so I will be reviewing my use of language last term and improving it. as well I would like to improve in my research skills mainly in the things I research so they reconnected t my topic of interest. To achieve  this I want to start by talking about a historic place I visited during my break, the castle of Carcasonne, located in a town with the same name in France.

It was founded in 1926 by Louis IX.  This citadel from the 13th century was inhabited by Romans, Visgoths, and Crusaders. This infrastructure mainly consists on watchtowers, ramparts, fortificated walls, and a castle. It was also named a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1997, as an interesting but obvious fact is that its walls and the size of it were intended to prevent possible conflicts. The castle is 3 kilometers of double city walls, 52 towers and 4 main gates.

Visiting this historic place that blends culture, with architecture, made me change my perspective of ancient architecture the way that the big walls not only protected the castle and the possible fortune that it may had but it also protected the people that lived there, acting as a protector for this community.

We also had to do an activity as an icebreaker, we had to recreate and artwork, because I did not attended the lesson I had to complete this task individually, and had the chance of choosing the artwork, I chose "arrangement in grey and black no. 1"  also known as " Portrait of the artist mother " is a painting made in oil on canvas by the artist James McNeill Whistler during 1871.

Whistler, J.M (1871) Portrait of the artist mother

This is the process which was not complicated due to the simplicity of the background, I did not have some things like the painting  or support for the feet that the panting has, I used  some fabric to differentiate the colors of the wall and use my gloves and jacket as well, the rest is part of the studio.

This is the final result

  1. This post could really do with some more detail, particularly in the first part - consider these questions: what do you want to achieve this term, how can you build on what you did last term, are there any new skills you want to learn?
