3D outcome - Prototype

For this post, I will be explaining the process of my prototype. First after finishing my first concept drawing, I started to create a prototype of what my final 3d piece would look like.

I based my prototype on my 3D model on Sketchup. This model was more accurate to the design of the building.

Process:

Materials used: Foam Board  and carboard.
I first used cardboard to make the walls cutting them like the design that was already established and then with the measurements of the cardboard I used the foam board where I had several failing attempts and had to repeat the ceiling 2 times until I had a decent shape and cut, it was especially hard for me because is then not used this material before, and the craft knife and technique was also new.
I had to take several practices to make a decent piece, but I still need to practice more.

I just needed to paste it together, to do that at the beginning I used PVA and as it did not work and the structure was falling apart I used the hot glue gun to paste the cardboard and the mountboard parts together. I wanted to experiment with layers and shapes which at the beginning of my project was hard to show on concept drawings but with the prototype, I'm able to show others and myself a better and clearer idea of what my design would look like.

This is the final product even though I had a lot of problems with the creation of the ceiling the final product is not that bad there are some things that I would have changed but because it is a prototype I decided to live it like that, I would have change the gap between the layers and the wall, but that is something I will have to fix with my last outcome as well I don't think my final outcome will be larger than this it will be approximately this size.

Overall this exercise has helped me visualize my project and the things that I needed to fix it has also enhance my abilities with model making, I still need more practice but so far I have reached a decent level of abilities, for my final outcome I will fix the gaps and make the corners more detail and clean.   It made me realize that I needed a strong material for the roof part because it could eventually bend due to the fragility of it, but making

  1. Add an image of your concept drawing so we can see what you are working from here. So, as this is your prototype, did it make you think differently about how you would make your final 3D outcome for this project?
Add a paragraph that discusses this and REFLECTS on this task and also how you are going to follow up.
'In my next 3D post, I will demonstrate my experimentations with mount board....'
