Workshop - Metal Fabrication

In this post I will be discussing the Metal Fabrication Workshop that I attended with my classmates, during this time at the workshop we were instructed on different types of metal, and the different things that can be made using the different machines available, the types of precautions we need to take so we do not cause harm ourselves or others, first we were given a single flat piece so we could practice bending this exact piece in different angles.

This was very easy to make and did not require a lot of complicated processes. We just needed to add the metal piece in between a machine and the side that faced the outside of the machine would bend. I don't consider I would use it in my project or especially in the project because I am not in necessity of bending metal pieces.

Then we were given a larger thin metal piece, that we had to measure and then cut two metal pieces with a partner, for this, we were assisted by the director of the workshop on how to use the machine, which cut the piece with pressure. Then with one of the already cut pieces, we bent it with a machine to create a spiral shape or a circular shape like mine, with the other cut piece we bedded it with our hands to create a shape, I tried to make a heart shape with my piece, then we weld it mechanically to unite the separate pieces. With this exercise, I learned about the different techniques of metalworking when creating shapes has to offer, in my opinion, is more useful in a different type of project,  but it could be useful as well in a different type of progression route, like plastic arts.

We also sanded two separate pieces the round piece and the cylinder of the image above,  in order to prepare it for manual welding,  where we had to use a different and longer process. I am not sure if this process could be related to my progression route, because the final result is not used in more detailed pieces. If I ever consider doing a 3D model with this sort of material I would only used it on structural basis to make the model more stable for example.

  1. Maria, from now on if something has no relevance to your project, don't post it. Unless you can find a way to make this post link to your project, I would like you to delete it as it has no worth to what you are doing. There are many other things you should be posting as there is a lack of any real project evident on your blog.
